The Doctor of Philosophy degree program in College of Chemistry and Molecular Engineering (CCME) at Peking University (PKU)includes a wide range of contemporary areas of chemistry such as Analytical, Chemical Biology, Inorganic, Nuclear, Organic, Physical Chemistry, and Polymer. CCME also offers interdisciplinary programs which give the students an opportunity to be exposed to a variety of research areas through national and international collaborations. The Graduate Program typically recruits around 130 graduate students each year.
CCME admits students possess a strong enough background in chemistry, biology, and physics. The application to National Summer Camp for Outstanding College Students in Chemistry is available from the our website beginning in early May. CCME admits the outstanding campers and offers full scholarship for graduate program.
CCEM offers 4-month rotation program for graduate students during the first semester to in-depth discussion with faculty members to explore research groups with mutual research interests. Most students begin research at the beginning of their second semester, Thesis Proposal Defense at the end of fourth semester, Ph.D. Qualifying Exam at fifth semester, pre thesis defense at eighth semester, and oral defense of a thesis on original research is scheduled after the thesis has been submitted and evaluated by an internal and external committee faculty. Candidates for the Ph.D. degree are expected tocomplete at least 40 credits, and two semesters of teaching experience.
Research assistantships, teaching assistantships, and fellowships including Chancellor's scholarship, Academic Scholarship, National scholarships, and scholarships from PKU and CCME.
the CCME Xing-Da Lecture is scheduled on every Friday presented by distinguished scholars around the world. In addition, there are many seminars on a variety of topics which allow the students to become aware of the state of the art of research areas.
